Tower Tag Challenge

Prepare for a unique and rewarding challenge at the Tower Tag Challenge, set for December 5, 2026, in the scenic Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, CT. This timed trail event offers participants the choice of an 8-hour or 4-hour format, inviting runners to test their endurance on an iconic New England peak. The course itself is a distinctive out-and-back on the Tower Trail, beginning with a short paved section before transitioning to a crushed gravel carriage road. Each "Tower Tag" loop spans approximately 3.3 to 3.4 miles, featuring a consistent climb of over 600 feet in 1.5 miles to the historic Observation Tower, where on a clear day, breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and Long Island Sound await. You go up, you come back down—a simple yet demanding premise that has garnered a reputation as a fun, tough, and solid effort among runners since its inaugural year in 2024.

Runners will find a well-supported experience despite the challenging terrain. A central start/finish aid station will provide water, electrolyte drinks, and an assortment of typical race fuel like potato chips, pretzels, and candy. In an effort toward sustainability, the Tower Tag Challenge is a "CUPLESS" event, requiring participants to carry their own hydration vessels. Portable restrooms are also available near the start/finish area. Typical race day conditions in early December feature highs around 45°F and lows near 28°F, with a modest 14% chance of precipitation, providing a crisp, invigorating atmosphere for this memorable event. A portion of the proceeds from your registration directly benefits the Sleeping Giant Park Association.
