Discover the historic charm and scenic beauty of Wilmington, NC, at the Tri-Span 10K and 5K, set for Saturday, July 11, 2026. As one of Wilmington's oldest and most iconic races, this event offers an unforgettable experience for runners of all levels. The 5K route is an engaging out-and-back journey through the vibrant streets of historic downtown Wilmington, including a stretch along the picturesque Cape Fear Riverwalk. For those seeking a unique challenge, the 10K stands out as the only three-bridge 10K course on the East Coast, featuring thrilling ascents and descents over the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, Thomas Rhodes Bridge, and Isabell Holmes Bridge, providing breathtaking panoramic views of the Cape Fear River and the majestic USS North Carolina battleship.

Prepare for a diverse course that blends historic urban landscapes with natural beauty. Runners will encounter varied terrain, including sections of boardwalk (5K), bridge grating (10K), cobblestones, uneven brick, and pavement throughout downtown Wilmington, with some slight rolling hills and short, steep grades, particularly on the bridges. Typical race day conditions in mid-July can be warm, with highs around 90F and lows around 73F, alongside a 19% chance of precipitation. To help combat the heat, the 5K course features one aid station at miles 1 and 2, while the 10K provides four aid stations located near miles 1, 2, 4.5, and 5.5, all stocked with water and ice. Gatorade will also be available at select 10K aid stations. Hydration is key, and participants are encouraged to plan accordingly for the warmer weather, with refreshing watermelon, electrolyte sparkling water, ice, and shade tents awaiting at the finish line at Riverfront Park.

Beyond the challenging courses and stunning vistas, the Tri-Span 10K and 5K fosters a vibrant community atmosphere. This beloved summer race also champions a meaningful cause, with proceeds benefiting the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program, which provides free health and wellness support to adult cancer survivors. Join fellow runners and make your strides count for a memorable day of fitness, breathtaking scenery, and powerful community support.
