Union Mills Wilderness 5K & 10K (Formerly Box Creek Event)

Lace up for the Union Mills Wilderness 5K & 10K, an engaging event that invites runners and walkers alike to experience the scenic beauty of Union Mills, NC, on February 28, 2026. Formerly known as the Box Creek Event, this fifth annual race offers both a 3.1-mile (5K) and a challenging 6.2-mile (10K) course, both starting from the Union Mills Learning Center. The 10K route promises spectacular views, winding alongside the Second Broad River, paralleling the CSX Railroad, and traversing around the base of Rocky Face Mountain and through the Box Creek Wilderness area. The 5K follows a portion of this picturesque course before turning back towards the start.

Participants can anticipate typical race day conditions with highs around 59°F and lows around 33°F, with a modest 14% chance of precipitation, creating a brisk and invigorating atmosphere for your run. Refreshments will be readily available in prepackaged and self-served options both on the course and at the finish line within the Union Mills Learning Center auditorium. Beyond the personal challenge, every stride in the Union Mills Wilderness 5K & 10K contributes to a greater cause, as all proceeds are dedicated to supporting building upgrades and educational programs at the Union Mills Learning Center. This event is also a part of the ROC series points race for 2026.
