United Way "Be a Hero"

Lace up your boots and unleash your inner hero at the United Way "Be a Hero" race in Durant, OK, on March 7, 2026! This annual event offers both a 5K and a 1-mile fun run, providing a fantastic opportunity for runners of all levels to contribute to a vital cause. The race proudly supports the Bryan County United Way and its partner agencies, with a special focus on the Red River Special Olympics, an organization added as a main partner in 2020 to celebrate the true heroes in our community.

Starting from Evergreen in front of the Opera House Coffee in downtown Durant, the 5K course features a stimulating mix of flat stretches and gentle hills, ensuring an engaging challenge for participants. A convenient water stop will be available within the Southeastern loop for 5K runners to refuel. Beyond the run, this event truly shines with its vibrant atmosphere; participants are encouraged to don their favorite superhero costumes, adding a unique and festive flair to the day. Typical race day conditions in early March offer pleasant running weather, with historical highs around 63F and lows around 39F, and only a 13% chance of precipitation.
