Gear up for the University of Delaware's Chicken Chase, set to take place on June 13, 2026, in the vibrant coastal town of Dewey Beach, DE. This spirited event offers both a 5K and a 1-mile walk, making it perfect for runners and walkers of all paces. More than just a race, the Chicken Chase supports the University of Delaware's 302 Tour, an initiative connecting student-athletes and coaches with communities across the state, bringing an infectious energy to the starting line.
Runners will enjoy a fast, flat out-and-back course, beginning on Salisbury Street (beach side) near The Starboard and extending onto King Charles, across the scenic Silver Lake Bridge, and along the iconic Rehoboth Boardwalk before a turnaround at New Castle Street. Expect cheering support from University of Delaware student-athletes, coaches, and even mascots YouDee and Baby Blue along the route, boosting spirits to the finish line. Typical race day conditions in mid-June feature pleasant highs around 83°F and lows around 64°F, with a low 14% chance of precipitation.
The excitement continues post-race with an legendary party hosted at The Starboard, featuring food, beverages, and an abundance of Starboard Chicken Wings. All participants receive a race t-shirt, and the first 300 finishers will earn a commemorative medal. Awards are presented to top overall male and female finishers, masters, University of Delaware alumni, and top performers across various age groups, as well as to the largest and fastest teams. This unique event blends competitive running with a lively beach atmosphere, all while celebrating the spirit of the University of Delaware's Blue Hens.
