Get ready to lace up for a cause at the 22nd annual Valley of Hartford 5K Road Race, set to take place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Newington, CT. This beloved community event offers runners a chance to tackle a scenic two-loop 5K course, known for its "full gamut of ups and downs" and moderate hills on paved roads. With mile markers throughout, the course provides an engaging challenge for participants of all levels. Typical race day conditions in late July feature highs around 86°F and lows around 67°F, with a 16% chance of precipitation.
The race starts and finishes in front of the Scottish Rite Building at 207 Deming Street, promising a spirited atmosphere from beginning to end. Runners can expect plenty of water stations staffed by enthusiastic volunteers to keep them hydrated along the route. Beyond the course, the Valley of Hartford 5K stands out for its profound mission: 100% of proceeds directly benefit the Children's Dyslexia Centers of Connecticut, supporting vital one-on-one tutoring and teacher training programs. In 2023, the event raised over $30,000 for this worthy cause.
Participants will be treated to a host of amenities, including complimentary T-shirts for the first 200 registrants and free post-race refreshments like baked pastries, fruits, Gatorade, and water. The experience is further enhanced with wellness services post-race, offering massage tables, cupping, and Normatec compression boots, thanks to Roba Physical Therapy and Wellness. Trophies will be awarded to overall male and female winners, as well as first and second place finishers across a wide range of age divisions, from 9 to 80+. Precise timing is ensured by the Trident RFID racing system. Indoor restrooms with air conditioning are also available for runner comfort.
