About This Race

The Vermont 100 Endurance Race, set for July 17, 2026, at Silver Hill Meadow in West Windsor, VT, offers an unforgettable challenge across 100-mile and 100-kilometer distances. As one of the original 100-mile runs in the USA and a proud member of the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning, this event has carved out a rich history since its running debut in 1989. What truly sets the Vermont 100 apart is its unique simultaneous format, where ultrarunners share the course alongside equestrian endurance riders—a rare spectacle in the ultrarunning world.

The demanding course features "unrelenting rollers" rather than major climbs, accumulating 17,000 feet of ascent over 100 miles, or 9,000 feet for the 100K. Runners navigate approximately 68 miles of rolling dirt roads, 30 miles of scenic horse trails, and just a couple of miles of pavement, all winding through breathtaking views of the southern Green Mountains and charming country farms. Known for being very runnable, the course is meticulously marked with colored plates and glow sticks at night, ensuring navigation even in the dark. Typical race day conditions in July see highs around 91°F and lows around 67°F, with a minimal 6% chance of precipitation, making for a warm but generally dry experience.

A strong sense of community defines the Vermont 100, bolstered by over 500 enthusiastic volunteers who staff the numerous aid stations. These aid stations, 25 for the 100-mile race and 16 for the 100K, are well-stocked and renowned for their energetic atmosphere, offering crucial morale boosts. Beyond the personal accomplishment, participation in the Vermont 100 supports a greater cause, as all proceeds benefit Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, a non-profit providing sports opportunities for people with disabilities. The race fosters a family-like environment, drawing athletes from around the globe to test their limits against this iconic, challenging, and profoundly rewarding event.
