Get ready to kick off your trail running season at the West Point Break, the exciting first race of the Southern Singletrack Trail Series. This popular event returns on Sunday, February 8, 2026, in West Point, GA, offering both 10K and 5K distances. Held at West Point Lake, the course is renowned for its scenic beauty and inviting terrain, making it an ideal choice for both aspiring trail runners and seasoned veterans seeking a fast, enjoyable outing. Typical race day conditions in early February bring comfortable highs around 58°F and lows near 32°F, with only a 20% chance of precipitation, promising crisp running weather.
The West Point Break course is a highlight, starting on a wide, grassy roadbed alongside West Point Lake before transitioning to the gently rolling singletrack of the Turkey Run Trail. Runners will enjoy picturesque loops, with at least half of the trail running directly along the lake, offering stunning water views. With approximately 150 feet of elevation gain per loop and a small amount of road mixed in, this "not-so-technical" course strikes a perfect balance, providing a fun and engaging challenge without being overly demanding.
This race is celebrated for its classic small-race atmosphere and is capped at just 90 runners, ensuring an intimate and friendly experience that often sells out quickly. Participants will receive a custom BOCO running cap and a finisher award, adding to the memorable experience. A portion of the race proceeds also goes to the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, allowing runners to support a great cause while enjoying the trails. On-course, a single hydration aid station will be available, while the finish line awaits with bottled water, CeraSport, bananas, and Super Bowl Sunday snacks to refuel and celebrate your accomplishment at the 500 Resource Management Road start/finish area.
