Embark on a magical journey at the Yellow Brick Road 5K, a cherished Lake Country tradition held in charming Oconomowoc, WI, on Saturday, June 6, 2026. This popular family-friendly event, which began in 2006, invites runners and walkers of all ages to celebrate the 86th Anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, a nod to the film's historic premiere in Oconomowoc in 1939. Participants can choose their adventure with a 3.1-mile (5K) run, a 2-mile walk, or the free 0.5-mile Kids Fun Run, ensuring a memorable experience for everyone.
The scenic course begins and ends downtown in front of City Hall, overlooking the vibrant Oz Plaza. Runners will enjoy a beautiful summer route that winds through Oconomowoc, featuring picturesque views along the isthmus between Fowler Lake and Lake Lac La Belle, with most of the course closed to traffic for a safe and enjoyable experience. Typical race day conditions in early June offer pleasant highs around 76F and lows around 55F, with a minimal 17% chance of precipitation, creating ideal running weather. A single aid station on the course will be passed twice, providing hydration, and bottled water and snacks await at the finish line.
What truly sets the Yellow Brick Road 5K apart is its enchanting Wizard of Oz theme, with many participants embracing the spirit by dressing in costume. All registered participants receive a custom Yellow Brick Road 5K T-shirt and a commemorative finisher medal featuring the 87th-anniversary logo. Additionally, every finisher is awarded a unique "woodle" crafted by Ridgeway Woodworks as a special keepsake. The event boasts professional chip timing, RaceJoy athlete tracking, and awards for overall top male and female finishers, team challenges, and the top three male and female runners in five-year age groups.
