Embark on a truly unique Independence Day experience at the Yorktown Independence Day 8K on July 4, 2026, in historic Yorktown, Virginia. This chip-timed 8K event invites runners, walkers, and even ruckers to traverse the hallowed grounds of the Yorktown Battlefield, following the scenic tour roads and trails where American and French allies secured the nation's independence. Celebrated as "the best 8K running/walking course on the Peninsula," the route offers a captivating journey through history, beginning with participants being led to the start line by Fife and Drummers near the York High School tennis courts. The 8K course loops the battlefield, culminating in a triumphant finish just beyond Surrender Field.
Runners can anticipate typical race day conditions with highs around 89F and lows around 69F, alongside a 15% chance of precipitation. While water is readily available at the finish line, participants should plan accordingly for on-course hydration. All 8K participants receive a custom race T-shirt, and the first 350 registered finishers are awarded a beautiful custom die-cast commemorative medal, marking their accomplishment on this historic course. Top overall male and female finishers, as well as age group winners, will be recognized.
